Super Inductive System (SIS) Therapy in Burnaby – EastWest Physiotherapy

Imagine a treatment that can reduce acute and chronic pain, speed up healing, improve muscle function, and help your body recover – without medication, needles, or direct skin contact. The Super Inductive System (SIS) is an advanced physiotherapy modality that does exactly that. Furthermore, it is a completely painless treatment! At EastWest Physiotherapy in Burnaby, we use the Super Inductive System to improve healing in acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions involving nerves, muscles, joints, and fractures. It is an advanced treatment option that we provide to complement other Physiotherapy treatment techniques in our practice, and many of our clients have reported it making a significant difference to their recovery.

Super Inductive System therapy uses a high-intensity electromagnetic field (up to 2.5 Teslas) to stimulate and rebalance the body’s natural healing pathways. SIS is safe, non-invasive, well-researched and evidence-based, and provides immediate therapeutic effects for many people. Most people find the effects to be immediate, and they may experience increased range of motion, decreased pain and sensitivity, and/or feel more relaxed in the treatment area after SIS. This effect lasts and with every subsequent treatment, it improves dramatically.

What Is the Super Inductive System?

The Super Inductive System (SIS) is a state-of-the-art physiotherapy treatment modality that produces high-intensity, pulsed electromagnetic fields into the body. These electromagnetic fields interact with nerves, muscles, and soft tissues to:

Because SIS is non-invasive, no needles, gels, or skin contact are required. In many cases, the device doesn’t even need to touch the injured area to be effective. Clients do not need to disrobe as this treatment can be performed through clothing.

When the body is injured, cells lose efficiency in their healing and recovery slows down. SIS stimulates these cells and their cell membrane, improving nutrient exchange, waste removal, and cellular repair, similar to giving your body’s healing engine a boost.

Benefits of the Super Inductive System

SIS is helpful for many conditions, especially chronic pain, nerve dysfunction, acute injuries, and post-surgical recovery. Key benefits include:

Immediate Pain Relief

Different frequencies of electromagnetic stimulation can:
- Trigger endorphin release
- Block painful nerve signals
- Calm overly sensitive nerves

This makes SIS effective for acute, subacute, and chronic pain.

Faster Healing of Injuries

SIS improves blood flow and oxygen delivery to the injured area, supporting faster tissue repair. This is especially beneficial for:
- Sprains
- Tennis elbow
- Dequervain's tendonitis
- Rotator cuff related shoulder pain
- Strains
- Spinal pain
- Sciatica pain
- Overuse injuries
- Herniated discs
- Chronic pain conditions
- Post-surgical recovery
- Nerve injuries and pain
- Fracture and bone repair

Reduced Inflammation

By improving circulation and cellular efficiency, SIS helps flush out inflammatory chemicals, reducing swelling and discomfort.

- Joint degeneration and arthritis
- Hip osteoarthritis
- Knee osteoarthritis - chronic knee pain
- Shoulder osteoarthritis

Improved Muscle Activation and Function

Electromagnetic stimulation helps:
- Treat muscle weakness
- Improve neuromuscular activation
- Prevent atrophy (especially after injury or surgery)
- Enhance muscle relaxation

Joint Mobilization

- Assists movement of joints by creating small oscillations
- Reduces stiffness and sensitivity of the joints
- Relieves joint pain

Stimulates Bone Healing

SIS can support fracture healing and bone regeneration by increasing cell activity and blood flow - as long as there is no metal hardware in the area. It also activates surrounding nerves and muscles to prevent weakness while immobilized.

How Does SIS Work?

Inside the SIS applicator is an electric coil that creates a high-intensity pulsed electromagnetic field. When this field reaches the body, it causes:

Depolarization of nerves

(blocking pain signals, stimulating nerves and activating nerve pathways)

Stimulation of muscle fibers

(which can help strengthen weakened areas)

Improved circulation and cellular activity

(accelerating tissue repair)

Your cells naturally have electromagnetic activity for exchanging electrolytes, nutrients and waste products through the cells and cell membranes. By amplifying this activity, the Super Inductive System improves healing efficiency, reduces inflammation, and supports proper tissue function.

Is Super Inductive Therapy Safe?

SIS is considered very safe when performed by trained clinicians. Because it is non-invasive and contact-free, most people tolerate it extremely well.

Common sensations include:

Side effects are typically mild and short-lived.

Contraindications (When SIS Cannot Be Used):

Your Physiotherapist will review these before treatment.

What Does SIS Feel Like?

Most clients tolerate SIS very well. Sensations vary based on the treatment settings and your injury. This is a pain free modality that a lot of our clients enjoy.

Muscle Contractions & Twitching

The electromagnetic field stimulates the muscles involuntarily, causing gentle twitching or rhythmic tightening. This is normal and part of the therapeutic effect.

Tingling or Pulsing Sensation

You may feel a warm, pulsing, or vibrating sensation as the field interacts with nerves and tissues.

Deep Relaxation or Fatigue

Many people feel looser or more relaxed afterward due to improved circulation and muscle activation.

Pain Relief

Analgesic pathways are activated quickly, and endorphins are released, often resulting in immediate pain relief during or shortly after treatment.

Warmth or Heat (Rarely)

Some clients feel mild warmth from increased circulation, despite no heat being produced by the device itself.

Why Choose EastWest Physiotherapy for SIS Therapy?

Frequently Asked Questions - Super Inductive System

The SIS device uses high intensity electromagnetic stimulation to activate nerves, muscles, and tissues without the need for direct skin contact. Depending on the condition, this electromagnetic energy helps to immediately reduce pain, relax tight muscles, promote healing, improve muscle strength and restore normal movement. It’s completely non-invasive and you remain fully clothed during treatment. Clients often notice a difference in their symptoms immediately after the treatment.

SIS is commonly used for:

  • Acute and chronic back or neck pain

  • Muscle spasms and protective muscle guarding

  • Tendon and ligament injuries

  • Joint stiffness and mobility loss

  • Sports injuries

  • Nerve-related pain such as sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, pinched nerves, disc herniation related symptoms
  • Fracture healing (without metal implants)

Post-surgical recovery (as permitted by your surgeon and precautions ruled out)

Most people feel a rhythmic tapping, repetitive muscle contractions, or gentle pulsing sensation. Throughout the course of the therapy, different stimulation sequences and parameters will be felt, depending on your condition. The intensity can be adjusted to your comfort. It should never feel painful. Many patients describe it as a deep, therapeutic activation of their muscles and nerves that they cannot achieve on their own.

This depends on your condition and your goals. To enhance the effect, your Physiotherapists may combine this treatment with other modalities (i.e. Exercises, Manual Therapy, etc) as appropriate.

  • Acute injuries: often improve within 1-3 sessions

Chronic muscle tension or nerve pain: may require a series of treatments over a few weeks
Your physiotherapist will design an individualized plan and integrate SIS with manual therapy, exercise, and other treatments for the best results.

SIS is considered very safe for most people. However, it is not recommended if you have:

  • A pacemaker or implanted electrical device
  • Pregnancy
  • Metal implants directly under the treatment area (your therapist will assess this)
  • Active cancer in the treatment region
  • Open Growth plates in children
  • Open wounds

Your physiotherapist will screen you thoroughly before starting treatment to make sure SIS is appropriate.
